New Sundown Solitaire Ring
It is November 19th and did you know that yesterday, in parts of Alaska, that the sun set for the last time in 2025 and will not rise again until January 22, 2026?! I’m truly amazed that folks can live in over two months of darkness and twilight! As a solar powered being myself, the sun feels like a necessity. I soak it in regularly to sustain my sanity through the winter. I don’t know if I could function properly knowing I would not feel its warmth for such a time. To those who can, I applaud you.
This ring made me think about the light in the blue skies going dark for some time; I feel like the world must get a little quieter and a lot colder during that period.
To evoke these feelings, I have paired a Rainbow Moonstone (photos do not capture the amazing rainbow flash) and a piece of Tanzanite. The Moonstone looks like a slice of ice, it has slight facets on its face and the backing behind the gem has been oxidized behind the gemstone to give it a darker, moodier appearance. Tilt the ring one way and a bring rainbow appears, and tilt it the other and a deep, dark stone emerges. The tanzanite is a light dusty purple gemstone that has been cut into a smooth pear shape. The two gemstones are flanked by two sterling silver nuggets and perched on a three strand ring band. It has been oxidized to enhance the textures.
