*The Diamond: It is associated with those born under the signs of Aries (March 20th - April 20th) and Taurus (April 21st - May 20th). Diamonds were reported to be found in India over 3,000 years ago, the first mention of them in history. For a significant period of time, they were only found in this area of the world, specifically in dry riverbeds. Can you IMAGINE finding a diamond in the dry dirt?! For many of those thousands of years, the Hindu culture believed that diamonds were prized possessions and provided their bearers protection from evil. Over time they were found in or traded to other parts of the world where they were utilized as tools, weapons and adornments of the body. Notable deposits of Diamonds in South Africa, Botswana and Australia were not discovered until the mid 19th century! This created a ‘gold rush’ type frenzy in these areas during this time.
Did you know the history of the first Diamond engagement ring? The year was 1477, and Mary of Burgundy was presented a Diamond engagement ring by the Archduke Maximillian of Austria. There were 3 uncut diamonds on the face of the ring in the shape of an M; it survived history and currently lives in a treasury in Vienna. This marriage was one of political protection for Mary, but it is believed that the two were truly in love and created a profound partnership of adoration and power. Just shy of 600 years later, this tradition of presenting a Diamond engagement ring as a symbol of everlasting love, is still extremely popular all over the world.
When you dig into the metaphysical properties of Diamonds, you hear a lot about strength and resilience, reaching lofty aspirations and goals as well as seeking the goodness within oneself. I believe that this is because Diamonds are sharing their story with us - that of perseverance - of forming under extreme conditions of heat and pressure. Over millions of years they transform from dull carbon to a luminous gemstone. The stunning luminosity of a Diamond reminds us to be strong, even when it seems impossible, and gives us permission to radiate and share that brilliant light with the world.
